Outlet

November 21st, 2014

The advancement of technology has extended the boundaries of what is considered art, challenging traditional notions of the aesthetic object. Whether or not contemporary artists directly employ these innovations in the creation of their work, technology has inevitably mediated how a work of art is perceived in both a physical and virtual space.

Examining the relationship between art and technology, OUTLET will explore how works of art can be defined as an emission of creative energy and electricity. One of the leading pioneers of abstraction, Kazimir Malevich, stated: “With the most primitive means the artist creates something which the most ingenious and efficient technology will never be able to create.” OUTLET aims to tes this claim and uncover how art has been impacted by technological progress.

We ask artists to reflect on how their work interacts with the digital world, and whether their art defies or inspires their art; or if their work merely exists in a technologically influenced environment. We welcome work of all media, in any format--electronic or tangible.
