The contemporary condition is defined by the paradox of excess and insufficiency. While our daily life inundated with an over-saturation of media images and consumer products, we also face an ever growing desire for more, as well as a constant sense of deprivation fueled by natural disasters, racial terror, and political instability. Hyper-visibility and erasure, consumption and waste, connectivity and emotional alienation, accumulation and loss, hyper-production and scarcity—all aspects of contemporary life feel simultaneously overwhelming and inadequate.
